Carlos Botelho
Carlos Botelho (1899 – 1982) initiates artistic activity as a caricaturist and cartoonist in comic strips published in the Portuguese press. After attending the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon, and influenced by modernism, he became interested in painting. Amongst his work it is worth mentioning the original interpretations of Lisbon’s landscape. He travelled through part of Europe and the USA collaborating in the decoration of the Portuguese pavillions in several international exhibitions. He is represented in the collections of the Chiado Contemporary Art Museum, Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, San Francisco Modern Art Museum and Sao Paulo Modern Art Museum. He participated in the XXV Biennial of Vennice. He began collaborating with Portalegre’s tapestry in 1955.
