António Charrua
António Charrua (1925 – 2008) was born in Lisbon and died in Évora. He studied architecture at the Institute of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He was a painter, sculptor, engraver, and ceramist, and the author of many tapestry cartons. His first individual exhibition was in 1953, in Oporto. A supporter of the expressionist gesture, many times abstract, Charrua has a numerous artistic production influenced by Pop Art. He is represented at the collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundations, in the Soares dos Reis Museum and in the Hensinki Museum. He began collaborating with Portalegre’s tapestry in 1965.
