Cruzeiro Seixas

Cruzeiro Seixas (décembre 2th 1920 – november 8th 2020) studied at the School of Decorative Arts Antonio Arroio. He was a painter, illustrator, and writer. Early in his career, he followed the neorealist expressionist movement, and from 1948, he joined the “Grupo Surrealista de Lisboa”, and later “Os Surrealistas”. His first individual exhibition was in Angola, in 1952. He is considered one the pioneers of surrealism in Portugal. He is represented in the Chiado Museum of Contemporary Art, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, Machado de Castro Museum, Museum of Castelo Branco, António Prates Foundation, amongst other collections. He began his collaboration with Portalegre’s tapestry in 1976.
