Fred Kradolfer

Fred Kradolfer (1903 – 1968) was born in Zurich, where he attended the École des Arts Appliqués. He arrived to Portugal in 1924, where he worked as a painter, graphic designer, and decorator. It was as a decorator that he collaborated in the decorations of the Portuguese pavilions at the Colonial Exhibition of Vincennes (1931) , in the International Exhibition of Paris (1937), in the International Exhibition of New York (1939), and in the Exhibition of the Portuguese World (1940). He illustrated several literary works. His activity was varied, between billboards, azulejos, and numismatics. He was the author of the 1$ stamp model of the series Europe (1962) and the 0.55€ stamp, issued in 2003, with the representation of a poster about Espinho. His first work in Portalegre’s tapestry was in 1958.
